Do you sometimes feel like you aren’t enough? Like you need something more, to feel better about yourself.
Maybe a bigger house, a better body, more friends, more achievements, more success, more money? Only then can you feel whole, complete, and happy?
Most of us deal with a feeling of inadequacy at some level or another. I wrote this poem as a reminder for myself when I am suffering from imposter syndrome, feeling down, or just going through an overall period of feeling like I am not good enough.
When you feel you are not good enough to be here
When you feel you just want to disappear
When you feel there is so much, you still don’t know
When you feel overwhelmed and out of control
Just know you are good enough, just as you are
When you feel you’ll only be okay when you succeed
When you think you need fancy things to feel complete
When you feel the only way to be whole, is to be thin or rich
Maybe then, somehow, you can flip the happiness switch
Just pause, and know, you being you is enough
When you feel small, insignificant, like you don’t matter
When all your hopes and dreams are getting shattered
When you feel lost, broken, and undervalued
Looking for someone outside to tell you your value
Pause, and know: you being you is enough
When you feel you need to sacrifice yourself to be lovable
When you think the way to survive is to make yourself invisible
When you feel you don’t deserve to take up space
No matter where you are, you feel out of place
Just remember, you being you is enough
Just like the trees sustain all of life, just by being them
Just like mushrooms recycle the dead, just by being them
The way pets and babies bring a smile to your face, just by being them
Isn’t that proof enough?
We are whole, complete, enough, just by being us
